About EBKaC labs

We build technology that gives people time back — and helps look after the planet we spend it on.

Our story

A small lab with a simple test: does it make life better?

EBKaC labs is an independent studio that designs and builds software. We started with the things we needed ourselves — a better way to run community sport tournaments, and small tools to plan and focus — and kept going.

The name is a nod to an old IT-support joke: EBKAC, “error between keyboard and chair”. We take it the other way round. The person in the chair isn't the problem; technology that ignores them is. So we start with people, and build from there.

Today we work across four threads — AI, productivity, community and nature — and we share what we learn along the way in our notes.

What we believe

Three problems we see, and what we do about them.

Distraction

Focus

Too much software is built to keep you scrolling. We make tools that do one job well and then get out of the way.

Disconnection

Connection

Screens can pull people apart. We build for real communities — teams, clubs, neighbourhoods — and for time spent outside.

Extraction

Stewardship

We don't sell your data, we keep our software light, and we point our work at helping the natural world, not using it up.

How we work

Start small. Build in the open. Keep what works.

  1. 01 · Start small

    Solve one real problem

Every product starts as a small, useful thing for a real group of people — then grows only when they ask for more.

  2. 02 · Build in the open

Make it with the people who use it

We share early, ask for ideas (like HomeTurf's mascot) and write up what we learn in our notes.

  3. 03 · Keep what works

    Measure the right things

Time saved, people helped, footprint kept small — not hours of attention captured.

“If it doesn't make someone's day a little easier, or the planet a little better off, we don't ship it.”
